Double podium inspires JRP

Independent team JRP’s two podium finishes in the 2nd round of the Spanish Open Championship (22 June) will drive the team to go for wins in the second half of the season.

Rising KF2 star Luke Wright scored a fantastic 2nd place at Cartaya in Southern Spain, after chasing eventual winner – KF1 professional Armand Convers - all the way to the flag.

Beforehand, young Bristolian Mitchell Hale had recorded one of the best finishes of his European career, with an excellent 3rd place in the KF3 final.

These results, on the back of a campaign of mixed fortunes for the Italy-based squad, are seen by team boss Mark Berryman as hugely important in helping to lift the team’s efforts to deliver even better results, as the international karting season enters its busiest and most important phase.

“It was a good weekend, everyone was happy” he said. “Luke was excellent – the best he’s driven since he won the opening round of the Italian Open Masters. He didn’t make any mistakes. Mitch didn’t drive as well as he can, but still took 3rd in some very good company. He’s only been racing for 18 months and he’s already at the front. He just keeps getting better with every race.”

The Maranello-supported team will now spend the next two weeks testing at Alcaniz in Spain in preparation for the forthcoming European Championship qualifying race there (13 July), and at Braga in Portugal where the European finals will be held (3 August).

Berryman said, “Alcaniz should be good. I’m really looking forward to it. We’re well prepared. Russell Danzey will rejoin the team and after his win in the British Super 1 Championship, he’ll be full of confidence too.”
